I would like to express my support for a donation of land by Selwyn Township Council to Abbeyfield House Society of Lakefield.  A donation of property is crucial to supporting their project to build an affordable home for 10-14 independent seniors in the heart of Lakefield.  The Abbeyfield House will also incorporate a public meeting place for many other groups to use at an affordable rate.  Abbeyfield has been a successful model for seniors housing for over 60 years. An Abbeyfield House in Lakefield will give seniors a home that provides a sense of security, community, companionship and support.  An Abbeyfield House in Lakefield supports the Township's Affordable Housing Priorities and it aligns with the Ontario Housing Renewal Strategy (2018) where the Federal, Provincial and Municipal governments will work together to support affordable housing.  Selwyn Township seniors need an affordable place to live within the Village and this project will make that possible.  As a registered charity, Abbeyfield House Society of Lakefield will be managed by a volunteer Board of Directors. The Village of Lakefield would be the perfect place for our seniors to live and thrive.
